He Waited
Gat Shemanim, or Gethsemane - in Hebrew, the word means “Oil Press.” It is a fitting name for a place where His betrayal and passion began. Across the Kidron Valley, some distance away, the Priest’s Gate on the eastern wall of the city can be seen.” From His vantage, he could see His betrayer exit the gate and the soldiers who would come to arrest Him.
He could see them carrying their torches and making their way steadily toward Him; He stayed and waited as they made their way down the path, across the Kidron Valley, and up the Mount of Olives. He didn’t flee from them, nor did He hide. He waited for his betrayer and arrest. He waited . . . for our sake. He waited.
